Rural Technology and Business Incubator (RTBI) is Indian Institute of Technology - Madras’ incubator facilitating rural-inclusive technology and business innovation in India. Its mission is to design, pilot and incubate scalable business ventures with a rural focus. Significantly, it provides leadership, funding, and an incubation eco-system suitable to entrepreneurs at any phase in their venture including the very early conceptual stage. RTBI's incubation sectors include education, health, agriculture, financial inclusion, vocational training, 
micro-enterprise development and technology solutions appropriate to rural needs.

Uniphore has partnered with RTBI on the R&D of innovative, exploratory projects that have the potential to enhance the lives of rural populations in India. Together, we have conceptualized a variety of technologies, such as social networking solutions for rural support groups through SMS applications.

Villgro Logo

Villgro, formerly known as Rural Innovations Network, is a Nonprofit organization that focuses on spotting, mentoring and incubating innovations that have maximum potential to change lives, in Rural India. Founded by social entrepreneur Paul Basil, with the backing of Ashoka and support of Rockefeller Foundation, Villgro began its journey in the year 2001 and has till date incubated over 43 innovations.

Uniphore works with Villgro’s fellowship program, which unleashes high potential talent for the development of social enterprises. Fellows bring unique skills and insights from the field to Uniphore, and we work to foster their professional growth and practical knowledge.

Research Partners

TCOE Logo

Telecom Centres of Excellence (TCOEs) are a joint initiative of Government of India, major telecom operators (Telcos) and premier technical and management institutes of India in a Public Private Partnership (PPP). The objective of TCOE is to sustain or further accelerate the impressive growth rate of Telecom in India by: (1) capacity building; (2) making available affordable local solutions through innovations; (3) Research and Development; (4) think tank activities to enhance decision making at Government and Corporates; and (5) creating a greater role in telecom standardization activities for the benefit of the Indian industry.

Uniphore and TCOE work collaboratively on R&D for telecom products and services across a variety of industries. The partnership has developed several innovative technologies, such as Voicelock, which uses voice to recognize and authorize specific people to enter a secure location.

IU-ATC Logo

India-UK Advanced Technology Centre (IU-ATC) is a virtual joint research initiative with a focused agenda to support collaborative PhD, Post Doctorate projects and joint research programs, and technology transfer between the UK and India. The initiative establishes the first virtual India-UK Advanced Technology Centre (IU-ATC) in Next Generation Networks, Systems and Services, which will put in place the support infrastructure to facilitate, develop and enable the Digital Economy of both countries. The consortium comprises 8 research-leading universities in UK, 5 leading IITs, major industrial partners in UK and India (including companies such as BT, InfoSys, Wipro, Sasken, and Tejas), and a number of SMEs.

Uniphore is an active member of the IU-ATC. We work with a host of academic and industrial partners to support various products trials, such as a sophisticated agricultural call center that can quickly and accurately respond to the demands of rural communities.

MPFI Logo

Mobile Payment Forum of India (MPFI) is a network of groups representing Banks, Telecom Operators, Technology Service Providers, Regulators (Reserve Bank of India & Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) and Government (MCIT). The Forum enables sharing of learnings and experiences, awareness creation, identifying common resources, resolving common issues and development of standards. It conducts research and marketing surveys, educational workshops and conferences, awarding mobile payment innovations and supports research activities in mobile payments. MPFI works with international bodies for the development of secured and reliable mobile payment services for feasible integration with countries across the globe.

Uniphore works on the Technology Committee of MPFI as a Mobile Payments Solution Provider. We provide customized voice technologies to help MPFI advance the availability and efficiency of mobile payments through India.
